This stunning figure is created by Concepcion Aguilar. Concepcion sometimes works with her husband Jorge Sanchez Ruiz. Her work contains great detail. Her specialties include mermaids, prostitutes and figures for the Day of the Dead celebration. Concepcion is a second generation potter who was taught by her mother Isaura. Her colorful pieces were in demand by Mexican Folk Art collectors including Nelson Rockefeller, who purchased dozens of pieces in the 1960s and 1970s. Many of these may be seen in the San Antonio Museum of Art and the Mexican Museum in San Francisco.
