This colorful and unusual nativity is handmade by famous artist Estella Aguilar of Oaxaca, Mexico. On one of his many trips to Mexico Nelson D. Rockefeller's eye was drawn to a small hacienda surrounded by a picket fence along a rural road in Oaxaca. Atop each picket were strangely striking figurines made of rough clay. The former Vice President discovered the shop of a family of potters by the name of Aguilar which made them world famous from then on. Today, the pottery pieces from the Aguilar family are part of a staggering collection of folk art assembled by Rockefeller and may be seen in San Antonio Museum of Art and other folk art museums.
