This one of a kind figure was created by Conception Aquilar. Former Vice President Nelson D. Rockefeller put the Aquilar family on the map. He discovered them on his final trip to Mexico in 1978. As he drove along a rural road in Oaxaca his eye was drawn to a small hacienda surrounded by a picket fence covered with strangely striking figurines made of rough pottery. Rockefeller was so fascinated that he bought all they had. Quite a few of these early pieces are displayed in the Museum of Art in San Antonio.
